Access to Energy

Are you a bilingual speaker looking to help with issues affecting your community?

This project will find ways to give advice and support on a variety of issues related to energy, to people who do not speak or read English. These are examples of some of the problems people may need help with:

 High fuel bills
 Cold homes
Damp, such as condensation, which may affect health
 Difficulty understanding heating controls

In some cases advice is all that is necessary, for example on how to reduce condensation, or how to set heating controls. Sometimes there may be a grant available to improve or repair heating, or to insulate the home. Little information and advice is available in languages other than English, and Access to Energy will work to address this problem.

We are looking for bilingual people who would be interested in receiving training in energy advice, and who have contacts in the community who do not have access to information because they do not speak or read enough English. We will help the volunteers to spread information about energy, and about grants, in whatever way is most appropriate. This could be through meetings, or translated materials, or newsletters.

If you are bilingual, and would like to help others in your community to make their homes more comfortable and reduce their fuel bills, please contact Ros Bedlow on 020 7820 3157
